I went from an easy, hurried, low-maintenance facial cleaning ritual to trying out the Asian 10 step skincare routine. Being raised in New York City has damaged and polluted my skin; I'm now repairing and focusing on anti-aging.
I want to buy and use products from a broad number of brands, I didn't just want to stick with one brand, I shopped around and compared all. I will try to write reviews each month, one which will be a list my skincare routine products, sharing my experiences on each product.

MISSHA Yei Hyun Cleanliness Cleansing Foam 170ml

MISSHA Yei Hyun Cleanliness Cleansing Foam 170ml

Very medicinal, it reminds me of the Hanyul cleanser.
I believe this is best for oily skin because it does strip off most of your natural barrier of moisture from your face if you have dry skin.
I have been using this for about 2 months daily and I like it.
It cleans, washing off dirt and oil.
I have combination skin and sometimes my skin feels a bit dry after but nothing a toner can't fix.

Macy's Estee Lauder MakeUp and Skincare Package

Macy's Estee Lauder MakeUp and Skincare Package

Recently Estee Lauder had a promotion with Macy for any $35 purchase, you get a makeup trio and skincare duo. My mom is a huge fan of Estee Lauder but I never really brought much stuff from the brand. The only thing I own from this brand is the Deluxe All-Over Face Compact, mascara and a couple of blush brushes and I loved the blush. The blush colors are so pigmented so I know that I wouldn't be worried about the color payoff on the eye shadow that I will be getting.

The primer is very creamy and your foundation looks nice on top of the primer.
I'm not a fan of the mascara because I have used that same mascara in full-sized before and it smudges. The anti-aging creams were given to my mom. Originally I wanted to pink the famous brown colored packaging night eye cream, but my mom wanted this set instead. She even took the perfume-I liked the scent also. The eye pencil was mediocre to me.

But the eye shadow palette!!!!! Gorgeous. When I opened the eye shadow compact - I gasped!!! I never have gasped when I opened makeup-there was a balance of shimmer and matte finished shadows.

And with the eye-chain? I wanted the panda instead but I wasn't given the option to choose :(

Be the Skin - Botanical Nutrition Serum

Be the Skin - Botanical Nutrition Serum - $35 retail 50ml - good for all skin types
I have been using this as a emulsion instead of a serum.
It is a thick creamy serum.
I don't like it because it a bit tickling and burns a little for my sensitive skin.
I either use it as a body cream but I gave up using it after a week and gave it to my mom who has dry skin.

Sephora Favorites - Soko to Tokyo

I have been eyeing this Sephora Favorites for a month since it came out.
Been to 5 Physical Sephora stores and not one carried it so my last resort was buying it online.

I was highly disappointed.
Half the products (Japanese ones) was reactive for my sensitive skin and the Korean brands that Sephora chose for this box was very exciting.

Blame me for using Korean products for over a year so I'm picky for the brands and products that I use. There is definitely room for improvement.

I guess for Sephora I will stick to the non-Asian brands.
However, this box is great for those that are new to Asian brands.

General Haul #39 Generation Beauty NYC (sept 17 & 18, 2016)

During my birthday weekend, I spent it at Generation Beauty!
The Early Bird tickets were about $106 including tax and I just wanted to spend my birthday with makeup and skincare this year.
I got a total of 3 hours of sleep per day in between work and going to generation beauty on both days.

Day 1 stuff from standing in lines to get products. I think the lines were more effective on Saturdays or maybe I planned out my day well. I went on the lesser known and avoid the lines when there were hosting YouTube meet-up times.

Day 1 goodie Bag (Saturday Bag).
So it seems that I am missing a few things from my goodie bags. I remember hearing some people complaining about that after they got their bags.
Day 2 goodie bag (Sunday bag) wasn't as great as Saturday in my opinion. But I was missing things from both goodies bags.
Day 2 standing in lines to get some products. Day 2 were awful, it seem like there were more people during Sunday.
I didn't get a chance to go to 6 booths because the lines were always closed everytime I passed by to get in line. Those lines included MakeUp Forever, pur-lisse and Jouer to name a few. Would I go again, no. I think every girl should experience it once a lifetime to enjoy and say that they went to Generation Beauty! My favorite booth was H2O+Beauty for giving up a full size sleeping mask and BareMinerals who give a full sized powder compact foundation and brush. Both of those brands color match and give you products according to your skin. It Cosmetics beauty rep was so nice in teaching me how to brow, contour and bronze-she took the time to explain and it made Generation Beauty worth it. If you just go for standing in lines and getting the products then this event isn't for you.

Many of these items are sold in Ulta only and in NYC, we don't have an Ulta yet so it was nice to be exposed to some of these products.

Here is where I learned that grown women aren't so grown.

Sephora Play September 2016 Review

Sephora Play September theme is "The UnBasic Basics"
An Anything But Ordinary Assortment

  1. Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in Love Spell - cute pink and creamy lipstick
  2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel - This is my first Anastasia item. I have been eyeing the Eyeshadow palette in Modern Renaissance which is always sold out.
  3. Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation - great moisturizer to bring with my to Taiwan in two weeks for their warm humid weather.
  4. KatVonD Tattoo Liner in Trooper - guess I can finally start to learn the cat eye look
  5. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Night Cap Overnight Perfector - smells really nice but not much of a difference with my hair the nice morning.
  6. Atelier Cologne Sud Magnolia - If you take a sniff, it smells like a fresh girly floral scent, let's see how this floral scent works on me.

Batiste Dry shampoo - Floral essence

'batiste' Dry shampoo 339NT

Love it!
Great thing to have if you are running late and don't have the time for washing your hair in the morning or throughout the day and need a quick hair fix.
This is better than most of the American brands of dry shampoo sold in Sephora.
Light, refreshing and hair feels clean afterwards!
I soaks up all the oil and dirt that you might feel in your hair. I will stock up on them when I am in Taiwan next time, but I believe that Target starting selling these in the stores.

Son and Park Beauty Water

Son and Park Beauty Water 340 ml / 25,000 won

For about $25 to get a cleansing water?
This was my first Son&Park purchase because I just wanted to see what all the hype was about and honestly, I don't think it's worth the hype.
Yes, it you like a simple skincare routine, you can use this as a cleasning eater, toner and exfoliate.
I rarely use it for any of those three.
I would use this as a third cleansing step every other day.

re:p Bio Fresh Mask with Real Calming Herb

re:p Bio Fresh Mask with Real Calming Herb

This is my first Neogen product.
re:p stands for real elemental practice.
This is a natural mask with herbs and environmental friendly ingredients.
There are two main ingredients in here: Calendula and Chamomile.
The ingredients here remind me of the Nature Republic province calendula Sun block because the scent is slightly similar.
The Calendula deals with relaxing and recovery while the chamomile deals with retexturing and protection.

I have been reaching for this wash-off mask on my days off when I wake up.
I don't bother with cleanser because I don't have makeup on when I wake up and I just pasture this mask onto my face.
Go make breakfast and then wash it off after 10-15 minutes.
You pores feel tighten and your face feels soft and fresh.

I will be using as much as I can before my trip to Taiwan next month and then taking the rest there.
Taiwan has this odd warm, humidity, watery wind weather that probably wouldn't be great for my skin without this mask.
So in my opinion, this mask will do me good there.

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Light Cream

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Light Cream 90g
I have been using this continuous during this summer.
I love it more when I use it in an central air room.
It locks moisture in my face and is very hydrating.
Very light if no scent.
I have used both the tube version regular cream and this light cream, I prefer this light cream for my face and the regular cream for my body.

Sephora Favorites - Skin-Fatuations

Sephora Favorites - Skin-Fatuations
A Super-Collection for Skin Perfection
Clear, Hydrated, Youthful- Looking Skin Inside

At first, I wasn't looking for this one, but was looking for the Soko to Tokyo one but this bag caught my eye and I know that I will use more than half of the things in here..
  1. Boscia White Charcoal Mattifying MakeUp Setting Spray (this is a full-sized or close enough to me!)
  2. Algenist Splash Absolute Hydration Replenishing Sleeping Pack - good thing this comes in handy because I am running low on my current sleeping pack
  3. First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Oil-Free Mattifying Gel - as long as it's not the red clay cleanser than I am fine
  4. GlamGlow SuperMud Clearing Treatment - this stuff works wonders, it gets rid of your blackheads and whiteheads!!!
  5. Kate Somerville Skincare - Oil Free Moisturizer
  6. Marula Foaming Cleansing Oil Exfoliating Facial Towelettes - 10 count - perfect during travel
  7. Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15/PA++

  10. Sephora Collection Green Tea Face Mask - surprised that this was in here but looking forward to see how Sephora sheet mask differ from the Asia ones that I have always been using.
  11. Shiseido Ibuki Quick FixMist - I was so exciting to see this product in this bag!

Dr.Jart+ Ctrl-A Spot Cover

Dr.Jart+ Ctrl-A Spot Cover

It is more of a makeup than a skincare product

More of a concealer.
Cover skin blemish, soothes and protects.
It doesn't stay on power.
I think it wasn't worth it for $20.
At least the color matched my skin.

MIZON Deep sea marine collagen ampoule 30ml

MIZON Deep sea marine collagen ampoule 30ml

Not repurchasing because I don't see any changes to my skin after using it for a while (gone through half the bottle already).

It's perfect for sensitive skin and very watery and absorptive.
And best for mature skin but I don't believe that there will be effectiveness.
The texture is very watery and I don't think it should be labeled as an ampoule.
I have used this during the last month of summer and going to use the rest during the beginning of autumn. This is great for those with combinational skin during the summer and fall.
Might be lacking during the winter months here in NYC where the winters are harsh.
One thing I noticed is that it isn't sticky and leaves your skin smooth and soft, however not very moisturizing.
Oh, how can I forget, it does firms your skin.
You will feel a bit tighten, but I think this is best for late 20s to early 30s.
This is also great for beginners or as your first ampoule purchase.

VERITE Dual Treatment Eye Cream

VERITE Dual Treatment Eye Cream 20ml / 60,000 won

Perfect for my sensitive eye area.
No reaction and very creamy and moisturizing.
As long as my eye area doesn't hurt when applied, then I am a happy camper.
In a tube-very hygienic.
Will repurchase if see it in stores.

The history of Whoo Gongjinhyang:Seol Brightening Gel

The History of Whoo Gongjinhyang:Seol Brightening Gel 100ml

Face does feel brightened and clean, but I don't think I would repurchase this considering I use a peeling gel once every 2-3 weeks and it took me about a year to finish it.
It exfoliates and removes your dead skin cells.
If you want a luxury peeling gel, go for it.

General Haul #37 - JkNLee #5 Chinatown NYC

My wallet is still recovering from all these sample sales from this past summer.
Thankfully, I ended this summer on the unofficial last day of summer with another sample sale.
JKnLee was hosting a sample sale for 5-days from September 1-September 5 from 10am to 8pm in celebration of Labor Day weekend. I went on the first day to see if I can find anything interesting because I never was able to make it to the first day of the jknlee sales.

I think I was very good in my purchases this time around because I did purchase many  makeup things from the Union Square Clio sample sale 2 weeks ago. Plus the annual Peach and Lily skincare haul played a part in my limited purchases yesterday.

Below is a picture of my goodies.

  1. Clio All Day Free Light Foundation in Natural Beige
  2. Clio Multi Cushion CC in Natural Beige
  3. Goodal Phytorain Amazonia Energy Oil
  4. Clio Diamond Lipstick in 18 Glossy Coral
  5. Clio Diamond Lipstick in 23 Deepen Brown
  6. Clio ArtLipstick in M028 Blossom Ruby
I can't wait to try out the ArtLipsticks!
I have two in my collection now!!

Individual reviews coming up when I use the products halfway.
